As an integral part of the family system, the contribution of grandparents to the life of the nuclear family can influence the development of grandchildren, both directly, if they play an active role in their education, and indirectly, through their support for parents (Findler et al., 2016; Hillman et al., 2017). However, scientific research has devoted little space to this important educational relationship, in particular compared to the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren with disabilities. Speaking generically about the family, in fact, often does not allow us to think about the many aspects that come into play in everyday life, especially when this is measured by disability (Pavone, 2009; Caldin, 2004). The questions still open concern: the taking in charge of the nephew with disabilities; the type of supportive relationship within the family unit; relations with the nuclear family; grandparents’ participation in the diagnostic process. The research is based on a qualitative methodology through autobiographical narrative interviews with grandparents and grandmothers with grandchildren with disabilities. Specifically, for the analysis of the emerged experiences, an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used (Smith, 1996), through the identification of emerging themes presented in graphic and narrative form.

Abstract
Specifically, for the analysis of the emerged experiences, an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used (Smith, 1996), through the identification of emerging themes presented in graphic and narrative form.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
