Central European influences on Giuseppe Lombardo Radice’s concept of ‘national education’: His relations with Italian teachers in Austria-​Hungary

The political positions of Giuseppe Lombardo Radice have been analysed several times by scholars, who have often noted certain contradictions in his unorthodox socialism, from which he distanced himself close to the war, when he was a convinced interventionist. The thesis presented here concerns his political ideas, his idea of social justice and his patri- otism, and his acquaintance with Italians from the Habsburg dominions, whom he had known since his high school days with not insignificant influence.
