The paper focuses on tourism understood, in an overall dimension, as an expression of territorial systems. The multidimensionality of the phenomenon of tourism, as a projection of the potential of the territories, can be seen more clearly if it is viewed through a lens of sustainability. This point of view offers numerous potentials, especially when we consider incrementalities that might derive from the integration of complexities. A model of sustainable tourism requires an integrated approach that assures the ‘complementarity’ of all its components and polices that promote comprehensive and sustainable development, based on resources, i.e., the totality of assets and heritage, taking into account the peculiarities of the territories.
