his paper intends to provide a comprehensive overview of the current Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods available in the European regulatory framework, with particular focus on the Italian legal system, with the intend to reduce the high degree of congestion in the courts of the Member States, while at the same time offering efficient out-of-court redress mechanisms complementary to the ordinary court system. In addition the effects, advantages and critical issues of the ADR methods available in the insurance sector will be analyzed, with particular regard to the motor insurance.
