In this paper, we provide a framework of the situation in L’Aquila town centre and other localities in March 2012 regarding the damages to the houses and historical heritage; we also provide some geographical considerations regarding new houses and the work produced to re-establish normal conditions. Particularly, for these purposes, we analyse some aerial photograph in visible light and thermal light which derives from the collaboration between the Geography Unit (Dipartimento di Scienze documentarie, linguistico-filologiche e geografiche) of Sapienza University of Rome and the Geographic Research and Application Laboratory (GREAL) of the European University of Rome, showing the added values of these kinds of images in the geographical and interdisciplinary researches.
